RIP BIlly Powel

The famous plane crash that took three of his bandmates in 1977 wasn't enough to kill Billy Powell but, sadly, the Lynyrd Skynyrd keyboardist passed away in his home in the suburbs of Jacksonville, FL, early Wednesday morning. He was 56 years old.

According to local newspaper the Florida-Times Union, Powell called 911 himself, but following CPR from rescue workers, was pronounced dead at 1:52 AM.

Powell took music lessons while attending military boarding school in Florida, and majored in music theory in college, but his true rock 'n' roll education began when he became a roadie for Lynyrd Skynyrd. In 1972, he graduated when he accepted the position of the band's keyboardist. Quite simply, they heard him play and hired him on the spot.Four years later, Powell survived the plane crash that killed three of his bandmates and their manager. At the time, it was the end of the line for Lynyrd Skynyrd, but Powell persevered, continuing to play music in various other bands including the Rossington-Collins Band (featuring fellow Skynyrd alum), his own band Alias and Christian rockers Vision.

Michael Jackson stuff

(Jan. 28) - "Thriller" may be headed to Broadway, but first Michael Jackson's song and groundbreaking music video may be headed to court.
John Landis, the acclaimed director who co-wrote the video and shot "Thriller," is suing Jackson, claiming the pop star has failed to pay him royalties for the project for the past four years.
Landis' Levitsky Productions Inc. sued Jackson for unspecified damages in Santa Monica on Jan. 21, days before a Broadway producer announced he had bought the rights to adapt "Thriller" for the stage.
The lawsuit claims Landis is owed 50 percent of profits from "Thriller" projects and alleges Jackson continues to license rights to video games, toys and comic books based on the video and a documentary.
The 14-minute "Thriller" video, featuring dancing zombies and Jackson himself, was first aired in 1983 and remains one of the most influential music videos worldwide. Landis also made a documentary about the making of the "Thriller" video.
Landis, director of movies including "An American Werewolf in London" and "The Blues Brothers," said in his lawsuit that he had not received his 50 percent share of the profits from "Thriller" -- including licensing rights -- for at least the past four years from Jackson's now-defunct company Optimum Productions.

Christina Aguilera is not only waving off talk that she's been borrowing Lady GaGa's look, she's even expressing doubts that GaGa is a lady at all. "I'm not quite sure who this person is, to be honest," Xtina told the LA Times. "I don't know if it is a man or a woman. I just wasn't sure."

The feud between Samantha Ronson and Joe Francis started during a VMA party, when Francis approached Lohan and Ronson's table. Ronson recalls the evening, "He said hello to Lindsay and looked over at me as if I wasn't a human being. He's got no manners."

Richard Dreyfuss bit the hand that fed him during a sit-down on "The View," attacking director Oliver Stone ("you can be a fascist, even when you're on the left") and dissects "W," in which he stars as Dick Cheney, as merely "6/8ths of a great film."

The set of 'Ugly Betty' reportedly turned, well, ugly when tension between America Ferrera and guest star Lindsay Lohan boiled over. A Page Six report says the feud between the two got so bad, Lohan cut her six episode 'Betty' stint down to four.

Andy Samberg's seemingly-harmless impression of him on 'Saturday Night Live' didn't sit well with Mark Wahlberg, who told the NY Post that "it wasn't like Tina Fey doing Sarah Palin, that's for sure." He went on to say he's turned down offers to host the late-night staple "a ton of the times" before appearing on 'SNL' to make fun of the entire episode.

Mischa Barton vs. Victoria Beckham: The actress has launched a one-woman, and ultimately one-sided, fashion battle with the extremely stylish Spice Girl. "Posh doesn't strike me as particularly stylish," she said. "I don't think she's a good example of British style at all."

Pat O'Brien vs. Lara Spencer : Pat O'Brien, former host and current correspondent of 'The Insider' wrote an email to staffers this weekend, slamming his colleague Lara Spencer. He suggested Spencer's most popular work "makes the viewers want to vomit." Nice.

The lawsuit accuses Jackson, 50, of "fraudulent, malicious and oppressive conduct," claiming that Jackson had failed to produce full and proper accounts for the past four years "and earlier."
A phone message left for a New York attorney who has represented Jackson was not immediately returned Wednesday morning.

Once the new CD is completed, Tyler revealed that the band is already scheduled to hit the road.
(Actuality #2) “The tour is booked for March or April, I believe it starts, and then we eat the States although I think there are some outside gigs but not as much as last year when we did Dubai and India and wound up in Russia.”
